Blyth Cowbell Brewery project is Blyth's most ambitious in years. After years of planning, research and micro teach plan development, the wheels of Blyth Cowbell Brewing Company are now officially in motion with a plan to construct a craft brewery in Blyth at the southeast corner of London Road and County Road 25. Phase one construction at the site will include the brewhouse, a restaurant with both indoor and outdoor seating, an over-20,000-square-foot multi-use space and a retail store, as well as an on-site farm. Several beer ingredients, including hops and barley, will be grown on 23 acres of farmland to the south of the main building. How Television Affects Children! Fruit, berries and vegetables will also be grown on the farm, all for use in the company’s beer and food. Teach Plan! Through several interviews with General Manager and Vice-President Grant Sparling and goddess of retributive investors Steven and David Sparling, along with several other members of the team over the past two months, The Citizen has been granted exclusive access to the genesis of the concept, the process and the future of the company. The process began, Steven said, five years ago when various economic development-themed discussions identified the potential for a union between Blyth and the booming craft brewery industry. “That led to a conversation about what people look for on such ‘destination’ trips,” Steven said. “There is an unprecedented effort in Blyth to understand the ‘creative economy’ and in Huron County to support real opportunities for building destination tourism. Cowbell is pleased to be one part of the solution. We are clear in micro teach lesson plan our support. We will work together and we will win together.” Talks were initiated by athlete salary, Blyth’s Rick Elliott, who was instrumental in the early stages of the concept, and micro lesson plan who led the group through the earliest fact-finding stages.

Along the way, plans for the brewery were put on hold until Grant returned to Blyth several years later and, over the course of athlete salary a summer, he led a business development team to build and test the case for a craft brewery in the village. Grant graduated from New Hampshire’s Dartmouth College last June and just 10 days later he began a comprehensive program at BrewLab of Sunderland, England. Through this program, Grant learned about the craft brewing industry – from micro lesson ingredients and Why Do Authority? pairing beer with food to the business side of running a craft brewery. The program also included work placements in a variety of breweries in the region. He graduated from BrewLab in September as a Brewer and soon after returned to micro lesson, Blyth. Since the greek goddess of retributive justice, process began, those behind the project have reminded themselves the world doesn’t need another brewery and it doesn’t need another beer, so the goal very early was to provide a different kind of product and experience.

Building upon micro, that foundation, Grant and the team have extensively toured locations in Canada, the of virtualization, United States and the United Kingdom, visiting over 100 craft breweries from which they hoped to learn. Along the way, the lesson, pair identified a number of practices and history of virtualization concepts they liked and micro hoped to integrate into Cowbell Brewing and others that were interesting, but could be made unique and specific to a project in Huron County. Meanwhile in Ontario, they were busy “identifying pathways to market” with the Liquor Control Board of Ontario (LCBO) while also building Cowbell’s individuality along the way. The goal was to have beer in LCBO stores this spring, Steven said, and of virtualization that would support the vision of Cowbell Brewing as a tourist destination, where its products could be sold in various forms, as well as served as either part of the teach, tour experience or through the location’s expansive restaurant. Going forward, the Cowbell Brewing experience will be one of the pillars of the business – an Rebel Authority? absolute priority to those behind the micro, project. The entrance to Cowbell will be located on County Road 25, where visitors will cross a stone bridge to athlete salary, reach the building, travelling through rows of hop vines in a tongue-in-cheek nod to many winery entrances that pass through grape vines. With its first contract brew set to begin soon and beer expected in LCBO stores by May, the group hopes to break ground on the brewery building in April, followed by micro teach, a grand opening in the spring of 2017. “One other thing,” Grant said, “the soccer fields will remain right where they are, but with improvements and proper parking.” The fields, just south of the future Cowbell location, have been provided to the community by the Sparling family for years. Cowbell Brewing’s website,, is now live and it includes its first video, produced by Goderich’s FauxPop Media, starring the face of Cowbell Brewing, L’Oreal the cow.

Birth rates are falling in developed countries. There is one simple reason for this - young people nowadays are just too selfish and too self-centred to have children. And this is particularly true of women.

To what extent do you agree with this view? Support your argument with relevant readings and evidence. Countries in the developed world have seen a big shift in attitudes to population growth. Several generations ago, it was generally believed that too many babies were being born, and that societies should try to reduce their populations. Nowadays, however, the concern is the reverse - that birthrates are falling too low and that urgent action is micro lesson plan, needed to athlete salary, encourage people to have more children. But what are the micro teach lesson, causes of kill this trend?

And how much are the attitudes and lifestyles of young people to blame? This essay will consider a number of explanations for the so-called baby crash. Teach. My argument will be that to hold young people responsible is Viewing Affects, neither valid nor helpful. The best explanation, I believe , is to be found in the condition of increased economic insecurity faced by the young. The birth rate has fallen dramatically in many parts of the world. Plan. To take several examples, in Europe in 1960, the history, total fertility rate (TFR) was about micro plan 2.6 births per female, but in 1996 it had fallen to 1.4 (Chesnais, 1998) . In many Asian countries, similar declines have been experienced. A Mockingbird. Japan now has a birthrate of only about 1.3, and Hong Kong#039;s has fallen to below 1.0 (Ichimura and plan Ogawa, 2000) . A TFR of below 2.0 means that a country#039;s population is not replaced, and thus there is a net population decline. This ageing of the People Rebel Against Authority? Essay, population has the potential to create serious problems. Fewer children being born means that in the long term, a smaller proportion of the populace will be economically productive, whilst a larger proportion will be old and economically dependent - in the form of micro lesson pension, health care and athlete salary other social services.

Most experts agree that these greying societies will not be able escape serious social and economic decline in the future (Chesnais, 1998). So what are the causes of this trend and what can be done to stop it? One common approach has been to lay the blame on young people and micro teach lesson plan their supposedly self-centred values. It is argued that in developed societies, we now live in a post-materialist age, where individuals do not have to be so concerned about basic material conditions to a mockingbird, survive (McDonald, 2000a). Thus people, especially the young, have become more focussed on teach the values of self-realisation and the satisfaction of personal preferences, at the expense of traditional values like raising a family. A strong version of How Television Children this view is put forward by Japanese sociologist, Masahiro Yamada (cited in Ashby, 2000) . He uses the term parasite singles to refer to grown children in their 20s and 30s who have left school and micro lesson are employed, but remain unmarried and continue live at home with their parents. Asexuality And Women Essay. These young people are spoilt, he says, and interested only in their own pleasure - mainly in the form of shopping. According to Yamada , it is this focus on self, more than any other factor, that is plan, responsible for Japan#039;s languishing birth rate (Ashby, 2000). In other developed countries, there is a similar tendency for the young to remain at home enjoying a single lifestyle - and a similar tendency for older people to interpret this as selfishness (McDonald, 2000a).

But is it reasonable to attribute the baby crash to Essay, the pleasure-seeking values of the young? The problem with this view is that whenever young people are surveyed about their attitudes to family, not only do they say they want to have children, they also express preferences for micro plan family sizes that are, on average, above the replacement level (McDonald, 2000a). As an example, McDonald quotes an Australian study that found that women aged 20-24 expected to have an average of 2.33 children in their lifetime. Findings like this suggest that the values of the young are not at all incompatible with the idea of having a family. It seems then that, as young people progress through their twenties and thirties, they encounter obstacles along the way that prevent them from fulfilling their plans to be parents. Some conservative thinkers believe the main obstacle is the changed role and status of How Television Affects Children women (eg.

Norton, 2003). According to this view, because young women now have greater educational and career opportunities than in previous generations, they are finding the idea of family and motherhood less attractive. Thus, educated middle class women are delaying marriage and childbirth or even rejecting motherhood altogether. Teach Lesson Plan. It is claimed that women#039;s improved status - which may be a good thing in itself - has had the unfortunate consequence of threatening population stability. But there are several problems with this argument. For one, the for to a mockingbird, lowest TFRs in Europe are found in Spain and Italy (around 1.2), both more traditional, male-oriented societies, which offer fewer opportunities to women. In comparison, Sweden which has been a leading country in advancing the rights of women enjoys a higher TFR (1.6 in 1996) - even though it is still below replacement.

Chesnais (1998: p. 99) refers to this contrast as the feminist paradox and concludes that empowerment of women [actually] ensures against a very low birth rate (my emphasis) . Teach Lesson. Another problem with trying to link improved education levels for women to athlete salary, low birth rates is that fertility in developed countries seems to be declining across all education and class levels. Micro Teach Plan. In a recent survey of Australian census data, Birrell (2003) found that, whereas the non-tertiary-educated group was once very fertile, its rate of Asexuality partnering is now converging towards that of tertiary educated women. We can summarise the discussion to this point as follows: Young people today, in spite of what#039;s said about teach lesson plan their values, still express a desire to have children. However, few end up having as many as they say they would like. The improved education and career opportunities for Why Do People Rebel Authority? Essay women does not seem to be the teach plan, decisive factor in reducing the number of children that a woman has. These conclusions suggest that there must be something else involved. Many writers are now pointing to Essay, a different factor - the economic condition of young people and their growing sense of teach plan insecurity.

Peter McDonald (2000a) in his article #039;Low fertility in Australia: Evidence, causes and policy responses#039; discusses some of the things that a couple will consider when they are thinking of having a child. Kill. One type of thinking is what McDonald calls Rational Choice Theory, whereby a couple make an assessment of the relative costs and benefits associated with becoming a parent. In traditional societies, there has usually been an economic benefit in having children because they can be a source of labour to help the family. In developed societies, however, children now constitute an economic cost, and so, it is argued, the benefits are more of a psychological kind - for micro teach lesson plan example, enjoying the status of being a parent, having baby who will be fun and will grow up to love you, having offspring who will carry on the family name etc. How Television Viewing Affects Children Essay. The problem, McDonald suggests, is that for many couples nowadays the micro, economic cost can easily outweigh any perceived psychological benefits. McDonald (2000b) discusses another type of decision-making - Risk Aversion Theory - which he says is also unfavourable to the birth rate. According to this theory, when we make important decisions in our lives life, if we perceive uncertainty in Asexuality our environment, we usually err on the side of micro teach plan safety in order to avert risk. McDonald points to a rise in economic uncertainty which he thinks has steered a lot of young people away from life-changing decisions like marriage and parenthood: Jobs are no longer lifetime jobs. There is a strong economic cycle of booms and greek busts. Geographic mobility may be required for employment purposes (McDonald, 2000: p.15). Birrell (2003) focuses on increased economic uncertainty for men.

Referring to the situation in micro teach Australia, he discusses men#039;s reluctance to form families in terms of perceived costs and risks: Many men are poor - in 2001, 42 per cent of of virtualization men aged 25-44 earnt less than $32,000 a year. Plan. Only two-thirds of men in this age group were in of virtualization full-time work. Young men considering marriage could hardly be unaware of the risks of marital breakdown or the micro lesson plan, long-term costs, especially when children are involved (Birrell, 2003: p.12). And Yuji Genda (2000) in Japan, responding to Yamada#039;s analysis of parasite singles, argues that the failure of young Japanese to leave home and How Television Children Essay start families is not due to self-indulgence, but is an understandable response to increasingly difficult economic circumstances. Genda (2000) notes that it is the young who have had to lesson, bear the brunt of the decade long restructuring of the Japanese economy, with youth unemployment hovering around 10% and How Television Viewing Children a marked reduction in secure full-time jobs for the young. Young people around the world seem to micro lesson plan, have an increasing perception of summary for to kill economic uncertainty and contemplate something their parents would have found impossible - a decline in living standards over their lifetime. According to a 1990 American survey, two thirds of respondents in the 18-29 age group thought it would be more difficult for their generation to live as comfortably as previous generations (cited in micro plan Newman, 2000: p.505). Furthermore, around 70% believed they would have difficulty purchasing a house, and around 50% were worried about their future. History. Findings like these suggest that the younger generation may be reluctant to micro, have children, not because they have more exciting things to do, but because they have doubts about Why Do Against Authority? their capacity to micro plan, provide as parents.

If we accept that economics has played a significant role in and Women young people choosing to micro teach, have fewer babies, then the key to reversing this trend is for Why Do Against Authority? governments to take action to remove this sense of insecurity. A number of policy approaches have been suggested. Some writers have focussed on the need for better welfare provisions for families - like paid parental leave, family allowances, access to child care, etc (Chesnais, 1998). Others have called for micro teach lesson plan more radical economic reforms that would increase job security and raise the living standards of the Asexuality and Women, young (McDonald, 2000b). It is teach lesson plan, hard to know what remedies are needed. What seems clear, however, is that young people are most unlikely to How Television Affects Children Essay, reproduce simply because their elders have told them that it is plan, selfish to do otherwise. Castigating the young will not have the effect of making them willing parents; instead it is likely to just make them increasingly resentful children.

In the first sentence, the student restates his argument - if we accept that. . He then goes on to discuss what could be done to lesson plan, deal with the problem.

In broad terms this is a discussion of the implications of the students#039; argument. Notice also how the student mentions the negative implications of the blaming approach. Hint: a conclusion that only restates the argument can be a bit uninteresting. You might also like to consider the implications of your argument - but you should do this briefly. Goddess Of Retributive. Think: I have argued for this position - so what might follow on plan from this.

You may have noticed that this essay is quite tightly structured. Its paragraph structure can be set out thus: Introduction Background to issue Explanation point 1 - summary student#039;s critique Explanation point 2 - summary student#039;s critique Student#039;s alternative explanation - Evidence 1 - Evidence 2 - Evidence 3 Conclusion. A Mockingbird. Hint: always try to map out a structure for your essay. Do this before you do too much writing. Micro Lesson Plan. You may have noticed that the essay is free of How Television Affects Children spelling, typographical and grammatical errors. Hint: always read your work very carefully before you submit it. Avoid doing your editing on the screen.

Always print out and edit from a hard copy. Note in the references section, you need to micro lesson, list all the texts you have referred to goddess of retributive justice, (cited) in the essay - not all the texts you have read, as some students mistakenly believe. Notice that the micro lesson plan, sample essay refers to a total of nine texts. This is a good number, and indicates that the student has done a fair amount of reading. Hint: try to include a reference to greek justice, most of the texts that you read for an essay - so that you can build up a reasonable list of references. Of course, all references have to be relevant to your argument. Teach Lesson Plan. Notice how the student uses I in his essay: The best explanation, I believe, is. And in the previous sentence, another first person pronoun is history, used: My argument is micro lesson plan, that . History. Some students have the impression that they are not allowed to use these words in their written work.

But in fact they can often be found in academic writing. Lesson. In general, the best place to use them is in the introduction - when you are presenting your argument. But if you are concerned that it is not OK to use I, you can use other expressions - which avoid self-reference, but which mean much the same thing, e.g. This essay will argue that . Remember though, that the really important issue is summary for to kill, not the words you use to present your argument - but that your essay actually has a clear argument. Try to keep your paragraphs a reasonable length. (Most paragraphs in this essay are around 7-8 sentences long.) Citations are used to indicate the source of the ideas you have used in your essay. Note that there are two main citation systems: the author-date system (also known as Harvard); the footnote system (also known as Oxford). In this essay, the teach plan, author-date system has been used. (Always check which system is required in each of your subjects.) Citation 2 (Ichimura and Ogawa, 2000) Citations can be set out in history of virtualization a number of ways. Teach Lesson. One method is to present some information and greek of retributive then provide the citation immediately after it to indicate the source. These are known as #039;information-prominent#039; citations eg: Japan now has a birthrate of only about 1.3, and Hong Kong#039;s has fallen to micro teach plan, below 1.0 (Ichimura and and Women Ogawa, 2000).

Other formats are considered further on. Citation 3 Masahiro Yamada (cited in micro teach lesson plan Ashby, 2000) This citation means that the student is dealing with the ideas of Yamada, but actually read about them in Ashby#039;s text. Whilst you should make an effort to read ideas in their original form, this is not always possible. In such cases, use the #039;cited in#039; format. When you are summarising the ideas of a writer, you need to use reporting expressions like the ones used here: He [Yamada] uses the Asexuality and Women, term . According to Yamada. You use these to distance yourself from certain language. eg. when you are using an informal expression, or a term used by others that you don#039;t necessarily agree with.

In this paragraph, the student wants to reject the view in lesson plan the topic - that young people#039;s selfishness is to blame for Rebel the declining birthrate. Notice how he does this in a careful way, by using expressions like: Findings like this suggest that . Micro Teach Plan. It seems then that . Being careful about the How Television Viewing, way you express your claims is a distinctive feature of micro teach lesson plan academic style. When you quote an author (like Chesnais here) you need to use quotation marks, and indicate the exact page number in the citation. Sometimes you may need to change the goddess of retributive justice, wording of the quote slightly so that it fits into your sentence. If you need to add/change any words, use [ ]; if you need to micro lesson plan, delete words, use . (Whilst it is OK to change the of retributive justice, wording of a quote, you must never change its sense.) Use italics when you want to micro teach lesson plan, emphasise a word. (When you do this in a quote, you need to summary for to kill a mockingbird, indicate that it is your emphasis.) It#039;s OK to use dot points in an essay (or numbered points here), but use them very sparingly. Citation 4 Peter McDonald (2000a) . discusses. Notice how in some citations the author can be part of the sentence: Peter McDonald (2000a) . discusses some of the things etc. This is known as an #039;author-prominent#039; citation and is very common in micro plan academic writing. Notice the use of reporting verbs in this citation type (discusses).

Use #039;inverted commas#039; for the title of an article. Use italics for Essay the title of a book. Notice some of the other reporting expressions used in the student#039;s summary of Peter McDonald#039;s ideas: . what McDonald calls. . McDonald points to . . which he thinks. It#039;s very important to make it clear to your reader when one paragraph ends and a new one begins. Micro Lesson. In this paragraph (#9), there is some potential for How Television Affects Children Essay confusion.

Notice how the student has used indenting to make this clear. Quotes of lesson more than one sentence in length should be separated from the Why Do People Against, main text. Notice how these are indented and are in a slightly smaller font. Again you should indicate the teach, page number. You only have to provide a separate list of references when you use the author-date system. Entries should be set out in alphabetical order. Each entry should generally be set out in the following order and format: Author family name, Initial. (date).

Title. Place: Publisher. It is becoming increasingly common for history students to refer to sources from the world wide web in their essays. Micro Teach Plan. In addition to athlete salary, providing author and title of site, you need to micro teach, include: the URL for athlete salary the site when you accessed the site. Although web references can be very useful, you obviously need to exercise some caution - there is a lot of junk around. Fantasy Books: There's a Whole Other World Out There. My favorite genre is micro teach fantasy. The idea that the magical can happen in the midst of the ordinary is Viewing Children Essay fantastic. Micro Teach Lesson. Fantasy really makes the phrase Escape with a good book meaningful. Our everyday world is at times quite predictable and mundane. Some of us dream of kill, having magical powers or coming across a mythical beast. The supernatural is so very intriguing to me. I know that many students feel the same way. They eat up anything that has magic, dragons, wizards or talking beasts. Stories like that seem so real that sometimes the fantasy and the reality become intertwined and hard to separate. I once had a girl who was puzzled because she didn't realize that dragons didn't exist.

I in no way want to teach encourage children to live in a world that is outside our realm and believe in greek goddess justice the things that happen within a fantasy novel. However, I do enjoy seeing the excitement brewing within students when they are really into a fantasy novel. There's definitely a different passion for fantasy than there is for any other genre. As a middle school sixth grade teacher I notice that the majority of my students prefer fantasy novels to teach plan most other genres. I have noticed the trend in fantasy take a huge upswing over the past decade or so. History Of Virtualization. It's almost as if the other genres have taken a back seat and are waiting in the shadows for things to calm down. Since I see such resounding interest in fantasy I decided that I should write a curriculum unit focusing solely on that genre. If this is what interests our students, why not use that material to provide a teaching device. Micro Plan. We've all had our moments of teaching a lesson only to look out and see the bored faces out in the crowd. If fantasy is what interests the Rebel Authority? students then perhaps that interest will be enough to keep our students focused for the Reading and English objectives we are required to teach. I wish therefore to create a unit devoted purely to the genre of fantasy.

We will look at fantasy in forms such as picture book and micro lesson, novel. If a student is summary kill resistant to fantasy, that might pose a challenge in teaching this unit. Micro Plan. However, I believe that the teaching approach in athlete salary this unit and the stories that will be taught will draw any student into an enjoyable experience with fantasy. This unit will focus on reading and analyzing the genre of fantasy. There are some specific aspects of fantasy that make it a genre of its own. We will study these aspects and lesson, learn what makes this genre so engrossing. In addition to reading, we will do some writing. It is amazing how easy it is for kids to create the supernatural. My goal is to have pairs or small groups of students write an original piece of fantasy with illustrationsbasically, to summary for to create a fantasy picture story book. This will come of course with coaching and teach, reassurance. History Of Virtualization. They have that creative spark in them, we all know that.

But very often the micro teach lesson plan spark cannot surface due to all the school that they are given. Hopefully the magical world of fantasy will intrigue the students enough to be free to write about it. The practical purpose of Asexuality, this unit is the teaching of literary elements. We will incorporate as many literary devices as possible, such as plot, characterization, point of view, conflict, foreshadowing/flashback, tone/mood, and micro teach plan, setting. We will look at where these devices appear in various texts. We will also concentrate on including them in the original fantasy stories we write. For the Why Do Rebel Authority? short stories I intend to do teacher read alouds. For the novels I intend to do literature circles.

Some of the stories I am intending to use would be novels such as Harry Potter, Chronicles of Narnia, Rabbit Hill, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, James and the Giant Peach, The Indian in the Cupboard, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, A Wrinkle in Time, The Lord of the Rings and lesson, Charlotte's Web . We will also incorporate some fantasy short stories such as Jumanji, Curious George, Sylvester and How Television Affects Essay, the Magic Pebble, The Tub People, The Velveteen Rabbit and The Rainbow Fish. What is fantasy? How can one identify a fantasy story? When we speak of teach lesson plan, just the word itself we are referring to an imagined dream or event. We also refer to the word when we are speaking of wishful thinking. When we refer to fantasy in the context of literature we are referring to stories that have certain definable elements that make the story unreal. Of Virtualization. There are many such elements. They vary from mythical beasts roaming an imagined world to micro teach lesson natural settings in Essay which animals take on human characteristics. There are recognizable conventions of micro teach, fantasy, such as toys coming to life, tiny humans, articulate animals, imaginary worlds, magical powers, and time-warp tales. A story needs to possess only one of these features in order to be classified as fantasy. History. However, some great stories use a combination of fantasy elements.

I tell my students simply this: a fantasy is any story in plan which at least one element cannot be found in our human world. Why should we acknowledge this genre at of virtualization all? Isn't it leading children into unreal dreams and causing confusion between what is real and what is not real? I don't think so. Just because a story contains animals that talk doesn't mean that the animals are not expressing the same emotions as fictional characters. Can't a child learn about love just as easily from Charlotte's Web as from Old Yeller ? In fact, it seems to me it takes more imagination and a more open mind to believe that Charlotte had feelings and could show love than it does to respond to the connection between a boy and teach plan, his dog. It certainly takes an open mind to believe that there is a Middle-earth and that dwarfs, elves and Asexuality and Women Essay, humans can bond and protect one another. Micro. I believe that fantasy not only does not lead children astray and cause them confusion, but that it actually broadens their mind and causes them to think beyond what we consider to be the limits of reality. After saying what fantasy is, we should take a minute and look at what it isn't.

Fantasy is not any of the following genres: realistic fiction, historical fiction, or science fiction. Asexuality And Women Essay. Let's look at each of these genres briefly. Realistic fiction is a story in micro plan which all the action, characters and setting could happen, it just didn't. In other words, the characters act like you and me and they live in places where you and I could live. Many times the author has styled the People Rebel Against Authority? Essay character after someone he or she knows, but just made some minor changes. Realistic fiction has every quality of being true, except it isn't.

Historical fiction is micro teach lesson a story that takes place in the past. In fact the of virtualization setting of the story plays a major role in teach lesson plan the action of the goddess of retributive justice characters and the events that happen. The characters act and dress in micro plan the style and manner of real people of that time period. One distinction I make in defining historical fiction is that it can only be historical fiction if the setting of the story precedes the time when the story was written. Essay. In other words, a book that was written in 1950 about children in the 1950s does not become historical fiction in 2006.

It will remain realistic fiction even though the setting and characters are now in teach lesson the past. Science Fiction: now here is where a distinction is truly necessary. Science fiction in some way involves a medical or technological advance that has not yet occurred, or a mode of advanced life that has not yet been discovered. But that is not to say that these things could not emerge in the future. We as humans are brilliantly coming up with new advances in medicine and Rebel Against Essay, surgical procedures. In the same realm we are also constantly coming up with advances in technology. If you had asked someone in 1930 if they thought there would be any way that one day everyone would not only have a telephone at home that can call anyone in the entire world, but also that virtually everyone would also have a cellular phone that had all the micro teach lesson capabilities of a home phone, and more, and summary for to kill, was something that could fit in the smallest of your jean pockets, they would have said it was impossible.

That is what I mean by science fiction. It has not happened, but it could possibly happen. Of course each of the above genres can be combined with one another to make various stories. What I wanted to teach lesson plan point out, however, is that none of them can ever be combined with fantasy and still maintain its true character. Fantasy has this brilliant way of athlete salary, taking over the story line so that no other story line or elements of another genre can remain the central focus of the reader's attention. We will start with the definition of micro teach lesson, fantasy and give some examples to Why Do People Against Essay the students. You can choose some example of fantasy that would be appropriate for the age and grade you teach, although when I introduce novel titles I also like to mention titles that are below grade level because perhaps the students will be able to identify with them from having read them in lower grades or at home.

For example, I teach sixth grade so of course I mention titles like Harry Potter and Redwall. But I also mention titles like Charlotte's Web and Curious George. When beginning this unit I will have my students take notes on fantasy motifs, but one could also provide a handout to them, especially since all of micro lesson plan, these motifs cannot be covered adequately in one class period. When we return to the lesson they can refer to their notes, and this will also be helpful when they write their fantasy picture story book at the end of history, this unit. Next we will discuss the elements of fantasy. Micro Plan. There are seven basic motifs in fantasy: magic, otherworlds, universal themes, heroism, special character types, talking animals, and fantastic objects.

Every fantasy story has some blend of the above elements. It's almost like a formula for writing fantasy. Students need to understand this formula and greek goddess of retributive justice, these elements in order to understand the basis of fantasy. Let's look at each of micro, these elements separately. Magic is the most basic element of history of virtualization, fantasy, whether it's Harry Potter waving his wand or the micro teach Cheshire Cat's ability to disappear. In my opinion, magic is what draws a reader to fantasy.

Magic is that in athlete salary which charms, spells or rituals are used in order to produce a supernatural event. It's something that we humans are unable to perform, so we are intrigued by it. The following is a quote from Alice's Adventures in micro lesson Wonderland when Alice first meets the Cheshire Cat. You'll see me there, said the Cat, and Asexuality and Women, vanished. Alice was not much surprised at this, she was getting so well used to queer things happening. While she was still looking at the place where it had been, it suddenly appeared again. (105) and I wish you wouldn't keep appearing and teach lesson plan, vanishing so suddenly: you make one quite giddy! All right, said the Cat; and history, this time it vanished quite slowly, beginning with the end of the tail, and ending with the micro plan grin, which remained some time after the rest of it had gone. (106) Otherworlds are an imaginative creation by the author of Asexuality and Women Essay, a place that is nothing like earth. It is a completely imagined world where anything can happen and lesson, is only and Women Essay limited by micro teach plan, the author's imagination.

One thing I respect the most about fantasy writers is their ability to create from scratch an entirely imagined world where unreal things happen. The author has two choices when introducing an imaginary world to the reader. He or she can begin the book by locating all characters in Why Do People Rebel Authority? this imagined world and never refer to what we know as the lesson plan real world, as in Tolkien's Middle-earth. Another way for an author to introduce another world is to have the characters leave the world that we know and enter the new world, as in Essay Lewis's Narnia. The characters can also have the ability to micro teach jump between two worlds. Universal themes are a must-have in How Television Viewing Affects Essay a fantasy story.

The most basic of these is micro teach lesson plan good versus evil. There's always a good guy trying to fight for what is right against the powerful force of a bad guy. Greek Goddess Of Retributive. A great example of good vs. evil is A Wrinkle in micro teach plan Time. Other themes include love ( Pinocchio) , friendship ( Charlotte's Web) and perseverance in the face of danger ( Lord of the Rings) . Heroism is something we all love. We love to see heroes save the day and become victorious over evil.

Many times the heroes are ordinary people in difficult circumstances. They themselves don't know of their powers or abilities until they are called upon to perform heroic feats. It is history of virtualization that humble strength that we love to see. Some characters are guided by a larger, more powerful forcecharacters such as Frodo by Gandalf or Meg Murry by micro teach lesson plan, Mrs. History. Whatsit in A Wrinkle in Time. The following quote from A Wrinkle in Time exemplifies not only the idea that ordinary characters are called to do great things, but also that they always find the power within themselves that they had no idea was there. But I do understandThat is has to be me. It can't be anyone else. Micro Teach Plan. (195) And that was where IT made ITs fatal mistake, for as Meg said, automatically, Mrs. Whatsit loves me; that's what she told me, that she loves me, suddenly she knew. She knew! Love.

That was what she had that IT did not have. (207) Special character types are abundant in fantasies. Some examples are fairies, giants, ogres, dragons, witches, unicorns and centaurs. We love these characters because they are so different from what we find in Essay our daily lives. However, a good author can shape the character in such a way that the reader has no problem believing that such a being could exist.

The use of talking animals or anthropomorphism in fantasy stories can be used for several purposes. Sometimes the animals can talk to humans, as in teach lesson James in the Giant Peach or The Chronicles of Narnia . Summary A Mockingbird. Then sometimes the animals only talk amongst each other and are incapable of talking with humans, as in Charlotte's Web, Redwall or Rabbit Hill . The need and micro, use for Essay, communication is prevalent in teach plan both types. Here we can also mention the use of talking toys, as in The Velveteen Rabbit or The Indian in the Cupboard. Fantastic objects help the characters perform their task. Many times these objects become almost a character in themselves. Where would Dorothy be without her slippers, Harry without his wand or Tinkerbelle without her dust? Many times characters need such an object to make themselves complete. The following quote from Harry Potter and greek goddess of retributive justice, the Sorcerer's Stone illustrates the idea that a hero needs an object and many times that object finds its way to the hero rather than vice versa. Harry took the teach lesson wand. History Of Virtualization. He felt a sudden warmth in his fingers. He raised the wand above his headand a stream of red and gold sparks shot from the endMr.

Ollivander fixed Harry with his pale stare. I remember every wand I've ever soldIt is very curious indeed that you should be destined for this wand when its brother-why, its brother gave you that scar. The wand chooses the wizard, rememberI think we must expect great things from you, Mr. Potter. After all, He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named did great things- terrible, yes, but great (85) Each of these motifs makes fantasy the micro plan distinctive genre that it is. As you begin to introduce and use fantasy in Affects Essay your classroom it is important to teach these motifs and point out specific examples to the students.

Literature Circles for micro, Elements of Fantasy. To review the Affects Essay lesson on elements of fantasy the class will be put into small groups. Each group will be given a fantasy picture book. For this unit I will suggest the following books: Curious George, The Rainbow Fish, The Tub People, Jumanji , The Velveteen Rabbit and Sylvester and the Magic Pebble. Each group will read their respective picture book and look for the elements of fantasy we have just learned. I suggest that the group fill out a report answering first the question of micro teach, Why is this a fantasy story? Then they will fill in the information about magic, otherworlds, universal theme, heroism, special character types, talking animals, and fantastic objects. If any of these motifs do not apply to the story, that should be noted. Afterwards a short presentation to the class should be given.

The presentation should include a short summary of the book as well as provide information about the specific aspects of the story that relate to fantasy. We all know that literary elements are the basis for teaching reading. I am specifically referring to plot, characterization, point of view, conflict, foreshadowing/flashback, tone/mood, and setting. For this unit we will incorporate these elements into the fantasy stories we are using. There are many more literary elements, especially when teaching high school, such as irony, figurative language, allegory, etc.

I have chosen just these seven for kill, this unit. You can remove any of micro lesson plan, these you wish when teaching this unit in your classroom or add more that you wish to cover also. Plot is the sequence of Asexuality and Women, events that applies to all fiction stories. It begins with Beginning Action. This is where the setting and characters are set up and introduced. Next is the Initiating Event. This is the teach lesson event that is the catalyst to the entire story. It begins the conflict. For To Kill. Then we see the Rising Action.

This is the bulk of the story line. All the events leading to the Climax are found in the Rising Action. Then we come to teach lesson the Climax. Here the conflict is resolved and all the tenseness of the story comes to a peak. Next is the Falling Action. After the Climax is revealed the Falling Action begins to wrap up the story and loose ends are tied up. Finally there is the Resolution.

This is the conclusion of the Asexuality and Women action and the end of the micro teach lesson plan story. Most stories used in the classroom are fiction stories that have a plot or story line. It's important to athlete salary illustrate this to micro the students and make the athlete salary differentiation between elements that belong to micro fiction and that those that belong to non-fiction. When I introduce plot for the first time I use a picture book, for reasons of brevity. We make a plot outline together as a class so the students can see each and every part of the story. How Television Viewing. Since this unit is focusing on teach plan fantasy, I would recommend using Sylvester and the Magic Pebble or The Velveteen Rabbit.

As you begin to use novels, then you can presume their understanding of People Rebel Against Authority? Essay, plot in the discussion. Major characters are the basis for the story. They are mentioned the plan most and have the most influence on the outcome of the story. As major characters you have the protagonist and the antagonist. The protagonist is Why Do People Rebel Against Authority? essentially the good guy and the main character. The antagonist is the teach lesson plan character or force that is against the protagonist, essentially the kill a mockingbird bad guy.

Major characters are always round or dynamic. This means that they change and grow as the story moves along. Minor characters are there to support the major characters. They are not necessarily essential to the story; however they do provide support and teach plan, background. Of Virtualization. The loss of a minor character does not necessarily change the outcome of the story. Minor characters are usually flat or static. This means that they do not change through the course of the micro teach lesson story. They lack depth in character. In A Wrinkle in Time , for example, Meg Murry would be the major character and protagonist.

We can see her transformation from the summary for to kill a mockingbird beginning of the story to plan the end. History. She has depth and micro teach lesson plan, the story most certainly needs her to Why Do Rebel Against continue on. The antagonist would be IT. Teach Plan. IT is essential to the story and provides the opposing force to Meg. Minor characters would be Meg's mother and in some respects her father, as her father is important to the story, but does not change as a result of the action of the story. Point of view is the view from which the athlete salary story is told. There is first person, which is when the story is told through the eyes of one character who is the narrator.

That character can reveal his or her thoughts but cannot go into the mind of teach, any other character. The word I is frequently used in first person. Third person has three different aspects. First there is third person objective. We do not know the thoughts of any characters, and only the action and conversation is revealed to the reader through the narrator. Then there is third person limited. This means that the narrator is an outsider who can see into the mind of only one character. The Indian in for to the Cupboard is told through the viewpoint of Omri, but he is not the narrator. Finally there is teach lesson third person omniscient, in which the narrator has access to the minds of history of virtualization, all characters. All thoughts and actions of the characters are revealed, and sometimes even the thoughts of the author are revealed, thoughts that none of the characters are aware of. The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe is an example of this point of view.

We are able to follow the micro plan thoughts of each of the characters, especially Lucy and Edmund. Conflict is the athlete salary essence of the plot. It is the major problem that the story line is trying to resolve. There are four types of conflict which will be discussed below. Man vs. man is where the conflict involves one character against another. In James and the Giant Peach James has conflict with his two aunts. They are despicable and wholly negligent towards him. In The Lion the Witch and plan, the Wardrobe we see a conflict between Aslan and the White Witch that resembles a man vs. man conflict.

However, if we look at the story in a broader sense and see Aslan as God, then it becomes a man vs. Why Do Against Authority?. society conflict. Man vs. Lesson. self is a conflict within a character and his or her thoughts. In many parts of Harry Potter we find Harry struggling with himself. He is constantly balancing the boy he has always been with the newfound wizard he is becoming. Man vs. society is a struggle between a character's thoughts or action and Why Do People Against Authority? Essay, what is expected of him or her in the society in which he or she lives. Pinocchio is lesson plan a good example of this conflict because he always finds himself going against what society expects of him. Finally there is man vs. nature where the character struggles against natural forces. A Wrinkle in Time could be an example of of virtualization, thisif in micro lesson fact we view IT as natural. Foreshadowing is a hint at what will happen later in the story.

Foreshadowings are not always recognized until later in the story when the How Television Children reader learns something and realizes that a hint of it was given earlier. Plan. But in Viewing Children Essay most cases foreshadowing is recognized, and raises the interest of the reader through suspense and encourages them to continue reading. Flashback is a remembering of an event that happened previously. Sometimes the event was already revealed in the story. Lesson Plan. However, sometimes a flashback is about an event that was not revealed to the reader and fills in the plot gaps the reader may have had. Tone is the way in which the author expresses his or her attitude toward a subject. This is a very difficult literary element to teach. The easiest tone to recognize would be humor.

However, the author also could be feeling bitterness, joy, resentment, seriousness, pessimism or optimism. In James and the Giant Peach it seems the and Women Essay author uses humor to micro plan explain various situations. He uses humor to explain the deaths of Aunt Sponge and Aunt Spiker. Athlete Salary. He also makes a humorous situation when he introduces the Cloud-Men making hail, snow and rainbows. Mood is teach lesson what the reader feels while reading. It is the atmosphere created by the piece of writing. These feelings are achieved through the use of history, characters, setting, language and images. A good writer can evoke a strong mood within the reader that affects the way a story is read. Pinocchio gives us a constant feeling of frustration. We cannot understand why Pinocchio won't do the right thing.

A Wrinkle in Time gives us a feeling of mystery. We are intrigued by this adventure Meg is having and also a little confused by it. Setting is the place and lesson, time in of retributive justice which a story happens. The place can be as broad as Asia or as specific as a child's closet. The setting can also shift as the story moves along. Time is when the story is happening. Again, it can be as broad as the plan Civil War or as specific as 3 PM.

The setting is usually revealed early in the story. Sometimes a setting is simply a backdrop to the story and is just there. Other times the setting may act as an Viewing Affects, influence upon the action of the story. The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe is set in two places, Narnia and the professor's house in the English countryside, the teach lesson plan latter being the non-fantasy world. The time period is World War II, which is significant in greek of retributive that it gives the reason why the children must leave home. Pinocchio is set in micro teach lesson Italy in the late 1800s. Justice. The background of Italy does affect some of the dialogue and micro plan, language, but overall it is not significant. Alice's Adventures in Wonderland obviously takes place in Viewing Affects Essay Wonderland. Micro Lesson Plan. This non-existent land is the basis and cause for all the lunacy that appears in Rebel Against Authority? Essay the novel. Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry is one of the settings for micro lesson plan, Harry Potter , the other being the English muggle house of the Dursleys.

Of course none of the story could take place without Hogwarts because that is where Harry meets his best friends and his enemy Voldemort. The major and significant setting for James and the Giant Peach is the peach, which travels from London to New York City. All the Asexuality adventure takes place inside the giant peach. Of course the magical setting of The Lord of the Rings is Middle-earth. This setting is significant because only a place like this could be the teach lesson plan home for the hobbits, the goddess of retributive justice elves, the dwarfs, the orcs, and the like. Literature Circles for Literary Elements. After the literary elements have been taught, the students will again go back to the literature circles. They will be given the same book as before, but this time they will be looking for the literary elements previously discussed. Teach Plan.
